Makeup Ideas To Complement Your Gorgeous Dress

If you’re getting ready to attend an upcoming cocktail party or special event, chances are you’ve already chosen your outfit. Whether it’s a colorful and flirty dress or an elegant black-tie gown, you want it to be the focal point of your ensemble. What you may not have considered yet, though, is how to choose complementary makeup to go with your choice of clothing. One option would be to look for colors that match those in your outfit exactly, such as accessorizing with emerald earrings or sporting red lipstick with that green dress.

Lipstick

Start with a base of your favorite foundation, which will make your skin look even and flawless. Apply a rosy blush on the apples of your cheeks for a natural-looking glow and eye shadow in a soft pink or neutral color. Add mascara and lip gloss or lipstick in a shade that’s similar to your dress. Finish by brushing blush across the tops of your cheekbones, right below the eyes, for an extra pop of color. To ensure it lasts all night, apply setting powder before you go outside. For dark hair: wear more browns and purples than blues and greens so they don’t clash with your clothing.

Blush

Incorporate blush into your makeup routine with a soft pink or peach. These colors will complement the green in your dress and give you a natural glow that’s perfect for summer. Try applying it on the apples of your cheeks and then blend upwards, starting from your temples towards the outer corners of your eyes. For more definition, use a powder product instead of cream blush to make it last all day long.

Eyeshadow

One of the easiest ways to complement your green dress is with a smoky eye. This look is great for day or night because it can be subtle or dramatic depending on how you do it.

Base shade, this should be a matte shadow, and may be either dark brown or black. Apply this around your entire eye area, and line your lower lashes with it as well.

Mascara

If you have green eyes, try a mascara with a red or black tint to bring out the green. If you have brown eyes, try a charcoal-based mascara that will make your brown tones stand out. The key is finding a color that complements the natural colors of your eyes, not something that clashes with them. For example, if you have green eyes and a pink dress on, go for rose-tinted blush and peach lipstick. However, if you’re wearing any other color dress and don’t want to use makeup as an accessory, feel free to skip this step.
